1. Reading Skills
Believe it or not, reading skills are essential in order to succeed in an electrician career. Firstly, you’ll need to be able to read blueprints and diagrams in order to understand wiring set-ups on new construction projects. You’ll be taught how to read blueprints during your training, and you’ll further develop this skill during your apprenticeship.
Reading skills also come in handy for reading wiring and installation instructions for light fixtures or any other appliances you may not be familiar with. Federal and provincial electrical codes are updated quite frequently, and your reading skills will help you understand the technical language so that you can stay up-to-date.
2. Basic Math Skills
Electricians do a lot of measuring, and so basic math skills will come in handy no matter what type of job you’re on during your career. Not only will you learn how to make precise measurements for distance and angles during your electrician training, you’ll also learn how to measure voltages, which you’ll use to design, modify, and repair electrical installations.
As you gain experience in your career, basic math skills will be useful for plenty of tasks. You’ll be able to estimate the amount of time and materials it will take to get a job done, and you’ll get really good at providing customers with pricing estimates and bills for jobs.
3. The Ability to Work Well with Others
